Description
Extropia Core lies in a natural bay formed by Tycho Peninsula to the North and unclaimed mainland to the West. The peninsula is the Core's only natural landmark and runs the length of the Northern frontier. A calm natural climate made the region a prime testing ground for floating habitat plates, designed by Galatea Gynoid. Each 32m-wide plate can support a moderately-sized home, and the settlements interlock to allow for larger building projects. The Core is punctuated by the Central Nexus, a free-standing structure supported by a sturdy pillar, which is in turn clamped to the sea bed. The three clusters of these floating plates have been named Hubble (South-West), Kepler (North-East) and Orion (South-East) after artificial telescopic satellites.
"The Core" has enjoyed a diverse population since Extropia was founded, by virtue of it being the first region to be colonised. At any given time most of the Core's inhabitants will be visiting tourists. The region plays host to many of Extropia's chief leisure centres, as well as some retail premises and the Central Nexus. The Nexus itself is not only the first point of call for new arrivals, but also the venue for Sophrosyne's Salon, a popular event held in the Core. Events can often draw crowds upwards of 40.
