From Extropia
When will I be able to move to Extropia?
Now! We have options for residences, group offices and commercial spaces in several sims. Please see the "Join Us" and "Tier" tabs for details.
What if I don't like building? Can I still live in Extropia?
We have no problems with prefabs that fit our theme: see the Convenant tab for details on theme limitations. We encourage creativity, but that can take many forms besides building: we welcome retailers, club owners, social organizers, philosophers, and just anyone who finds Extropia to be a place where they feel at home.
I'd like to bring my existing organization/store/sim to Extropia. Is that possible?
Absolutely! We're very interested in affiliating with established organizations and facilities. Maintaining our brand identity and strengthening our management system are among our priorities in our early growth phase, so we may suggest that some relationships might be best formalized later in our development. No matter how big or small you may be, though, if you're interested in working with Extropia, we'd love to sit down and talk with you!
I've got an idea for something I'd like to build/bring to Extropia, but it's very different from what's in Extropia Core. What should I do?
We're planning on expanding as rapidly as demand and investment capital will let us, and future sims will look very different from our first sim, Extropia Core. If you've got a design vision, pitch it to us! As long as it fits in our genreal guidelines of depicting a positive future, we're open!
I'm new to Second Life, and/or can't make a real estate commitment now. How can I be part of Extropia?
While it's our Citizens who're building the Extropian vision, it's our visitors and friends who are the heart of the Extropian community! Come hang out with us: there's almost always people socializing in the Nexus. We're going to be adding on more entertainment facilities soon, with lots of opportunities to have fun and meet friends in Extropia. A great place to start is by coming to our events - Sophrosyne's Saturday Salons and our frequent parties.
Do I need to be an Extropian, Transhumanist, or Singularitarian to be welcome in Extropia?
No. Extropia is a science fiction sim based on an Extropian scenario for the future. The important thing to note here is the "science fiction" part. You're no more required to be an actual transhumanist to be welcome in Extropia than you are required to be an actual vampire to be welcome in a sim like Midian City. Although we do believe the number of real-world transhumanists who frequent Extropia to be greater than the number of real-world vampires who frequent Midian City, in neither case do they constitute a majority.
Since the SL-Transhumanists have made their headquaters in our sim, if you are interested in transhumanism, you'll have no trouble tracking down some people with similar interests, but do understand that most of us are just futurists or science fiction fans with a positive view of the future.
Are you guys all members of some cult?
Well, it is true that a number of us are Trekkies, but I think calling us cultists would be stretching it...
I think you suck.
That's not a question! :P Our vision isn't for everyone. Plenty of people like dystopias, or more conventional environments, or historical or high fantasy environments. There are plenty of those around, so we don't feel a need to fill that niche, other people already have those covered. Some people reject our view of beneficent technology, our optimism. That's fine too. But don't expect us to debate you. We're too busy building the future we want to spare time on unconstructive criticism. (For example, arguing we'd make more money renting to post-apocalypse Mad-Max builds isn't constructive. It may very well be true, but it's outside the scope of our project's goals.)
Constructive criticism, from people who respect our goals to build a positive and beautiful sim, and who have experience and insight to share in helping us do a better job building these sims, is warmly welcomed!
